The Kerala Cabinet, led by Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, announced ₹8 lakh as financial assistance to the kin of those killed in recent torrential rains and floods. The government also increased compensation for fully damaged houses from ₹4 lakh to ₹6 lakh and for loss of both land and house from ₹10 lakh to ₹12 lakh. A long-term disaster resilience programme is also being developed.
